Bill capping malpractice awards is frivolous

Iowa doctors have among the least expensive liability insurance in the country

I would encourage people to watch the movie “Hot Coffee”. It talks about the McDonald’s coffee case among others. The best example of tort reform is a couple in Nebraska. Their son was born with severe mental disorders because of negligence by the doctor. Economists said it would cost around 7 million to care for the son throughout his life because of the negligence. Nebraska tort reform caps payments at 1 million. This means that Medicaid will pay the rest most likely. Taxpayers should not subsidize a doctor’s negligence, especially when a jury, after hearing all the facts, decides otherwise.
